Your hiking journal
Your trail story starts here.
Log your first hike, import a CSV, or explore the sample journal above.
Keep your memories portable.
CSV backups include every hike and note. Use the Trailbook CSV format, or choose Import GPX for recorded tracks. Identical entries are skipped.
CSV format and backup tips
Use a UTF-8 file with these required columns: date,trail,distance_km,elevation_gain_m,duration_minutes. Dates use YYYY-MM-DD. Measurements stay in kilometers and meters, even when the app displays miles and feet. difficulty and notes are optional; notes can contain up to 2,000 characters.
Download Example CSV to see the format. Other apps’ CSV exports may need different column names. Export CSV saves your whole journal, including hikes hidden by filters. Keep a copy outside this browser; clearing browser data removes the saved journal.

LESS GUESSWORK, MORE EXPERIENCE
A familiar trail. A little time outside.
Find routes whose typical logged duration fits your time. These suggestions use your entire journal through today, including hikes hidden by search filters. Future-dated entries are excluded.
Typical means the median of your logged times for the exact trail name, distance, and ascent. A single visit is limited evidence. Past times are not guarantees; check current access, weather, and daylight before heading out.
FROM RECORDING TO REFLECTION
Bring a recorded hike into Trailbook.
Open a GPX track from your device. Preview its shape and calculated measurements, then review a draft before saving. The file stays on your device.
One recorded track per file, up to 20,000 points and 5 MB. Planned routes and standalone waypoints are not recorded hikes.
Route shape only. Not a navigation map.
Only the reviewed journal fields are saved. The GPX file and coordinates are not stored in your journal.
